General Expectations
Our players are what make our volleyball program great. Throughout the season, players are expected to:
• Be on time for all required activities.
• Be in the best condition you can be in via training, hydration, nutrition, and mindful self-care. Well-being is not limited to physical condition—it includes mental, spiritual, and emotional health as well.
• Manage your time wisely between practices, games, academia, and personal life.
• Have a positive and optimistic attitude at all times toward your teammates, coaches, parents, and opponents.
• Represent yourself and your team in a positive light at all times.
• Be willing to learn, accept constructive criticism, and implement instruction when given by coaches.
• Be mentally and physically prepared for all team activities.
Practice Expectations
To make practice function at the most efficient level, the players are expected to come to practice fully prepared. Players are expected to:
• Arrive and be ready to practice on time (15 minutes early.)
• Practice how you will play. Practice competitively and challenge yourself and others. Expect to work hard and give 100% at all times.
• Encourage and support your teammates through all drills.
• Fully commit physically and mentally to practice, as you would a game.
• Make sure all equipment is set up/taken down before leaving.
• Show up with a positive attitude and leave with a positive attitude.
• Show respect for your coaches and teammates at all times.
• Hustle at all times – that includes shagging balls and moving from drill to drill.
• Be willing to learn. Be receptive to constructive criticism and make instructed changes quickly.
• When you are not involved in a drill, be an active participant and always be ready to enter if called upon.
Game Day Expctations
Players should be ready to play (including proper attire, shoes, kneepads, jewelry removed, etc) 45 minutes before the match start time.
• Players are strongly encouraged to attend the matches of the other Panther teams during regular season games and tournaments.
• During tournaments, players are required to remain with their teams. Players may have reffing duties during tournaments, including line judging and score keeping—all players are required to participate in these tasks.
• Coaches may have additional requirements for regular season games and for tournament days.
Attendance Policy
• Players are expected to attend all mandatory practices, matches, and other scheduled team activities.
• Players should be ready to play (including proper attire, shoes, kneepads, jewelry removed, etc,) 15 minutes before practice start time, and 45 minutes before match start time.
• If a player is unable to attend a practice, game, or tournament, they are responsible for communicating with their head coach. Any unexcused absence from a practice or game will result in a game suspension.
• We understand that athletes have other important agendas going on in their lives; therefore time management is important. As a Panther, they have a responsibility as an athlete that must be respected as the commitment they have made.
General
First and foremost, thank you! As parents, you deserve a huge “Thank You” for all that you do. Parents are a huge part of any program, and we want to make sure we express our gratitude to you for everything you do for your daughter and our program.
Parent Roles/Rules
Roles are important on any team. Parents have a very important role in the program. The most important role of a volleyball parent is to offer POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT for all players on the team. We feel that the following rules are very important for parents to follow:
• Support/encourage your daughter and the program. You might not always agree with every decision made by a member of the coaching staff, and you might not always agree with decisions made by players, but please be there to support your daughter and the program in a positive manner.
• Be a Panther Fan! Sometimes as parents, we can focus too narrowly on our children, and we become more concerned with the success of our own child, rather than the success of the team. Please remember to be present whenever possible to cheer for your Panther and to be a fan of all members of the team when they are playing.
• Display good sportsmanship. Please represent the Panthers at each game by showing good sportsmanship towards referees, coaches, players, and fans from our opponents programs.
Parent Communications
It is important for players and parents to communicate any questions or concerns to the coach. It is important that we hear concerns dealing with players from players first and not parents. If a conference is needed, the coaches will be happy to meet with a player and parent. Players must be present at all meetings. Players and parents are expected to follow the proper chain of command when dealing with a problem or concern. We hope that issues can be resolved in step one.
1. The player talks to the Head Coach
2. The player and parent talk to the Head Coach
3. The player and parent contact the Athletic Director.
We will do our best to communicate information to players and parents as soon as possible. If there are changes, the coaches will let the players know about those changes as soon as possible. Team communication channels will vary by team. Your daughters’ coach(es) will be in touch.
Non-Debatable Issues
Playing time, game strategy, and other teams or program matters are decisions made by the coaches. These decisions are final and
these issues are not debatable. If a parent approaches a coach regarding one of these issues, they will be redirected to the Panther Board.
